Perkins+Will's Universidade Agostinho Neto has been cited in Architect Magazine's Annual Design Review 2012. The awards celebrate the best architecture located in the United States or designed by firms that have an office in the country.
Speaking of the winning projects, juror Mark Yoes (co-founder, WXY Architeture + Urban Design) noted, "They're just very clear statements about what their relationship is to their surroundings." Situated outside Luanda, Angola, Perkins+Will's project is part of the first phase of a new university campus master plan designed on previously undeveloped savanna.
"I think it's extraordinary in terms of resurrecting some earlier modern motifs and materials, and yet doing it in a way that feels pretty fresh and appropriate for the context," juror G. Martin Moeller Jr. of the National Building Museum commented. The citation was earned in the 'Grow' category honoring education projects.
