Excitement Builds for New Recreation Complex at Appleby College

During the start of 2016, Perkins+Will’s Toronto office had a number of project wins in community recreation, independent school athletics, and collegiate athletic master planning. Of these wins, Appleby College selected Perkins+Will from a field of nine esteemed firms to lead the design of their new Athletics Complex.

Appleby College is an independent school founded in 1911, located in Oakville, Ontario. It offers a co-educational program from Grades 7 to 12 for 750 students. This new Athletic Complex is considered a major investment for the school and is expected to greatly influence student life on campus.

The complex will provide an auditorium for up to 925 participants, a 3-storey climbing wall, double competitive venue gym, multi-purposes fitness spaces, classrooms, study areas, and more. It is the hope of the school that this upgrade will make their school one of the best in Canada.

Perkins+Will’s understanding of the school’s community, the firm's programming expertise, and its commitment to building high quality sustainable environments helped bring Appleby’s vision into a firm concept.

With former alumnus Duff Balmer leading the design efforts for the complex, Perkins+Will is working with the school to envision architecture that embodies that special Appleby experience.
