The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced the winners of their third annual Global Excellence Awards and their first annual Best Interiors of Latin America Design Competition. Both programs were established to honor and celebrate outstanding originality and excellence in the creation of interior design projects.
The Global Excellence Awards bestowed Perkins+Will’s University of Toronto Mississauga Instructional Centre with the Best of Category award for Cultural/Institutional/Educational projects. “The complexity of each project illustrated a global commitment to design excellence,” stated Cheryl S. Durst, Honorary FIIDA, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and CEO, IIDA. “Furthermore, originality was achieved through contrast, defining spaces uniquely and embracing regional surroundings.” The award will be granted at a ceremony in Paris, France on January 19, 2013 at the Maison & Objet tradeshow.
The Best Interiors of Latin America Design Competition recognized the Perkins+Will-designed Hospital Universitario San Vicente de Paul with an Honorable Mention in the Healthcare category. “The outstanding caliber of submissions to the IIDA Latin America competition stands as a testament to the fact that high design is thriving in that region of the world. This year’s entries were highly creative, culturally appropriate and displayed a considerable degree of innovation,” stated Jaime Velez, FIIDA, speaking on behalf of the panel of judges. Approximately 100 projects located in Mexico and Central and South America were submitted by international interior design and architectural firms.
