David Combs currently serves as Director of Operations for the Southwest Region, covering the Dallas, Houston, and Austin offices. He has more than 30 years of architectural experience in a broad range of market sectors, building types, and construction types. He is primarily responsible for the financial, administrative, technical, project delivery, and risk management facets of the architectural business, including coordinating the implementation of the office strategic plan; ensuring effective administration and management of business operations; development and monitoring of the annual office financial plan; maintaining appropriate levels of qualified staff and allocation; establishing and monitoring both firm-wide and office-level processes and strategic initiatives; and providing fiscal, contractual performance, and collections guidance for the project managers.
Prior to Director of Operations, David served as Director of Specifications and a senior construction contract administrator for the Dallas office. He has been a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) for over 20 years, is a Certified Construction Contract Administrator, and has served on CSI’s National Specifications Competition Committee and National Certification Committee. In addition, David has been teaching professional development courses in specifications, written construction documents, and construction contract administration at the local level for over 18 years. He is a past President of the Dallas Chapter of CSI, and most recently served for five years on the AIA national MasterSpec Architectural Review Committee. In addition to his Director of Operations duties, David continues to serve as a primary technical resource to project teams during the design and construction phases, providing guidance and assistance to the firm’s teams.
