John Poelker, Associate Principal, is a senior project manager in the K12 practice for Perkins+Will in the Atlanta office. With nearly 15 years of architectural design experience spanning a wide range of project types, John brings innovative solutions and creative thinking to clients and their projects. Involved in all phases of the project from programming and planning to schematic development and final design, and through construction and move in, John is known for his attention to detail in addressing client needs, managing the creative process, and delivering buildings that uphold Perkins+Will’s reputation for design excellence.
John is currently involved in Perkins+Will’s research initiative, which includes an article in the Perkins+Will Research Journal, as well as the development of a pre- and post-occupancy study for schools at elementary, middle, and high school levels.
John has been involved as a juror and studio advisor at Princeton University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Georgia Institute of Technology. He is an active member of CEFPI (Council of Educational Facilities Planners International) Southeastern Region and a conference presenter on the subject of high performance schools, project based learning, and evidence based design as it applies to educational spaces. John also participates in a number of community groups including Architectural Discovery, a program that introduces elementary school students to architecture and design, and the Atlanta Beltline Student Initiative, which brings architecture into the art programs at middle schools along the Beltline corridor.
