Biomedical Engineering

Schools of Medicine are increasingly partnering with Schools of Engineering to focus their research on the gap between engineering and medicine. Biomedical engineering research spans a massive array of the healthcare field from medical devices to tissue engineering to bioinformatics. The buildings that house this research must therefore be highly adaptable, allowing for future changes in programs, technology, equipment, systems, laboratory configuration, bench arrangement and research teams, as well as allocations of wet and dry research space. Our buildings accelerate discovery by providing platforms for integrated research and serving as the functional and experiential link between education, research, clinical practice and commercialization. Our designs support this highly interdisciplinary field by providing meaningful interaction spaces from shared equipment labs to social lounges, all with the intention of fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.
