The 5-story, 145,000 square foot facility features space for specialized laboratories, lab support, 200 permanent and 40 visiting scientific personnel and a mechanical penthouse. Since each laboratory branch pursues functionally distinct scientific agendas and working protocols, flexibility, adaptable equipment and casework allow for quick changes in lab conditions and life cycle evolutions. The building's unique environmental controls, security, chain-of-custody and safety requirements offer flexibility as future conditions and laboratory agenda evolve. The high sloped ceilings in the laboratories allow for natural daylight to penetrate into all areas of the building. The facility is a rare example of how natural daylight and visual connections can highlight a laboratory environment.
