The City of Lancaster selected Perkins+Will to provide a needs assessment, architectural programming, and project design for a new public safety building. Located on a park site, with high visibility from the main entry into the city, the new building to acknowledges the city's new "forward thinking" philosophy while integrating into the existing municipal campus.

The bold new state-of-the-art facility will include both fire administration and operations and all police department functions. The fire and police facilities have been designed together as an integral facility in order to take advantage of shared functions such as, fitness facilities, lobby and public areas, dispatch, training facilities, break rooms and other support spaces.

The new police department will include Administration, Support Services Division, Patrol, and Criminal Investigations Bureau. The Fire Station will house the Office of the Fire Marshall, Administration, Crew Area and Fire Emergency Management. A shared common facilities area, with a Fitness Room and Break Room will be easily accessible to both the Police and Fire personnel and will facilitate communication and collaboration between the two departments.

Sustainable design features such as, day lighting, optimum building orientation, cool roof, energy efficient MEP systems and recycled materials. By combining the Police and Fire Departments the city of Lancaster will create a "gateway building", evoking a feeling of unity and pride for the users and the community.
