Morningstar New York
New York, New York
Square Footage: 18,000
When facing an upcoming lease expiration, Morningstar decided to move to 4 World Trade Center because of the building’s modern aesthetic, its proximity to clients, and the opportunity to provide client and employee focused amenities. The design was envisioned to reflect the company’s culture of transparency and collaboration, its commitment to sustainability and wellness, to be highly branded, and to reflect Morningstar’s emphasis on innovation and design. It was also important to give employees choices in terms of working together in teams, heads down and focused in a quiet space, or in an open setting at a more traditional workspace.
The space is energy efficient and there is a great focus on employee wellness. It meets the 2030 challenge, with close to 40% energy reduction, and 32% potable water reduction. Workplace wellness was also a driving factor in the planning of the space, bringing custom sit-stand workstations, centrally located support services, lockers and bike storage, hydration stations, and a wellness room into the design. Technology is infused throughout the space, reinforcing one of Morningstar’s key competencies. Brand messaging is reinforced with the use of bold geometric shapes (triangles, circles, and rectangles) that also reference the building geometry, and the vibrant but simple palette of red, black, grey, and white.
