Northeastern University, Satellite Campus
Square Footage: 5,700
Northeastern University is a Boston-based private research institution and a leader in experiential learning. In 2012, Perkins + Will was selected to design their second satellite campus in Seattle’s burgeoning South Lake Union neighborhood. The tenant space for the new campus is shared with the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), also designed by our firm and completed in 2011.
Northeastern's new space creates a warm, open, and exciting learning environment, while bringing a new presence to the street in a booming neighborhood and business center. We have maximized a small footprint and generous floor-to-floor height by stacking administrative offices to create a mezzanine floor with great transparency between the public lounge and University staff.
Through a creative lease agreement, Northeastern shares a large seminar suite with ISB. Office seminar spaces by day change to Northeastern-branded video-conference enabled classrooms at night. Environmental considerations include energy efficient/natural day lighting, FSC-certified wood, and environmentally conscious materials with a target of LEED Platinum.
