Perkins+Will and HOK (formerly 360 Architecture) recently completed a new Football Training Facility and Press Box for the University of Massachusetts Amherst in support of Minuetmen football to the NCAA Division I’s Bowl Subdivision.
The new Football Training Facility includes a ceremonial lobby and Hall of Fame celebrating the history and traditions of past accomplishments, Strength and Conditioning Center, Sports Medicine, locker rooms, equipment issue and storage, administration and coach office suite, as well as a large multi-purpose room overlooking the field for entertaining and recruiting and a 130 seat auditorium which is divisible for separate offense and defense team meetings. The multi-purpose functions as a player’s lounge, academic center, recruiting room, and hospitality room for game days. The room, with expansive views of the field and stadium, opens up to an entertainment terrace for an enhanced game day experience.
The Press Box includes three suites for entertaining guests for football, other sporting events and University functions - President’s Suite, Home Team Suite and Visiting Suite. In addition, to new hospitality rooms, the press box contains areas for TV talent, Game Day Operations, home and visiting coaches, Radio, Instant Replay, and a 50 seat Writing Press area.
As one of the campus most historic buildings and sites, the project has transformed and revitalized the spirit and character of the original 1960’s McGuirk Stadium and surrounding landscapes to create a vibrant and active hub for campus life and intercollegiate athletics.
