The University of Oregon's Matthew Knight Arena is a facility planned as a state-of-the art, world-class intercollegiate basketball arena. Replacing the venerable McArthur Court, the building is a campus gateway anchor and visual icon for the university.

Our team provided brand experience, interior architecture, environmental graphics and wayfinding signage expertise to the project, working in conjunction with the architectural teams of JMI Sports, TVA Architects and Ellerbe Becket. We developed a brand experience master plan based on research revealing the unique historical, cultural, social and athletic heritage of the region, university and student body. From this work, three brand attributes of "courageous innovators", "pioneer spirit" and "people power" were identified to drive the project's design. The design solution establishes a series of specialty spaces and brand elements tailored to resonate with key audience types throughout the facility and act as a recruitment tool for top athletes, students and program donors. These components create an unforgettable basketball experience that embodies the unique UO athletic culture and heritage, carries on the legacy of McArthur Court and strengthens the university's relationship with its community and environment.
