Perkins+Will receives Healthcare Design Firm of the Year award

Perkins+Will healthcare practice leaders will make five presentations, Carolyn BaRoss will accept the award for Interior Design, and Perkins+Will will be honored with the Firm of the Year award at the 2014 Healthcare Design Conference in San Diego, California from November 15th to November 18th. With more than 4,000 participants, the conference is devoted to how the design of responsibly built environments directly impacts the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities now and into the future.

Saturday, November 15
3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Suzanne Drake will be a panelist during the workshop “Human Health and Fire Retardants; looking towards Safer Alternatives.” Panelist will share why Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs) in building materials and furnishings are so concerning to human health.

Sunday, November 16
9:20 a.m. – 10:20 a.m.
Amanda Mewborn and Marvina Williams will present the session “Using Operational Studies to Improve Healthcare Facility Planning and Design.” The session will present operational studies detailing the use of innovative approaches to healthcare facility planning and design. Case studies will detail innovative approaches to planning and space programming, including process analysis, mock-ups, simulation, and operational modeling.

12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Carolyn BaRoss will accept the award for Interior Design and Jean Mah will accept the Firm of the Year award during the Healthcare Design Awards Ceremony and Lunch.

1:40 p.m. – 2:40 p.m.
Kevin Turner will be a panelist for “Therapeutic Environments, Neurosciences, and Architecture Forum and Panel Discussion.” This forum will provide a platform for advancing research-enhanced design with emphasis on behavioral and geriatric populations. Discussion will center on best-practice design standards as well as new approaches to care with project-specific examples.

Linda Tan, Lynnette Tedder, and Stephanie Augustyn will present the session “Solving the 3-D Pharmacy Puzzle: Renovation of an Complex Facility.” Attendees will learn about the latest trends in pharmacy design to increase patient safety and staff efficiency and the process this team used to renovated this complex facility.

7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Tatiana Guimarães will present the latest developments in healthcare planning during the “American Institute of Architects-Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA AAH) Update and Reception.”
