in Washington, DC. The SIA Government Summit brings together all facets of the security industry: executives, integrators, sales, marketing and government relations professionals. Panels are geared towards doing business with government and gaining a better understanding of the trends facing the industry.

Ed Feiner will be the keynote speaker and Jana Foit will be a presenter at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Festival of Architecture in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Festival of Architecture is the annual conference for architects across Canada. Jana Foit will present “Reinterpreting Wood Construction: Two Projects”. The presentation will focus on the innovative use of wood in two projects at the University of British Columbia: the net-positive Centre of Interactive Research on Sustainability and the Earth Sciences Building, which represents the largest application of panelized wood products in North America to date.

Blair McCarry will present “Net Positive – Beyond Zero” and Kathy Wardle will moderate “An Equal Challenge: Bringing Healthy Materials to the Mainstream.” The conference focuses on providing a program full of inspirational education opportunities each year centered on the ideas that - The buildings and infrastructure built today must be resilient and adaptive to a changing environment. It is essential they create long-term value through improved energy performance and less water consumption. Communities should be designed to mitigate the environmental challenges that lie ahead, and this involves city planning that accommodates vast future urbanization, while still providing improved quality of life.

Jeff Doble will present at Pencha Kucha Night in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jeff has worked on many of Perkin+Will's significant transit projects around the world, including the design of three ground-breaking prototype stations for the Ar-Riyadh Metro Transit system in Saudi Arabia.

Ajla Aksamija and Christopher Sciarrone will be involved with sessions at the AIA National Convention 2013 in Denver, Colorado:
Ajla Aksamija will present "Sustainable and High-Performance Facades: Design Methods, Analysis, and Case Studies". The presentation will cover methods for designing sustainable, high-performance facades, and the necessary steps in ensuring that the environmental factors and energy-efficiency strategies are integrated with the design process. The material covered in this course is a summary of Ajla's upcoming book "Sustainable Facades: Design Methods for High-Performance Building Envelopes."
Christopher Sciarrone will be a panelist for the session “Pro Bono Publico: Small, Mid-Size, and Large Firms Serving Society.” The panel and discussion will provide firms with the replicable protocols and procedures to implement a successful and sustainable internal framework particularly in light of a challenging economic climate. The discussion includes program leadership structure, integrating the work into firm culture, and rallying investment by leaders and staff alike. Max Richter will participate in a webinar on “How the Experts Specify Healthier Materials” hosted by the American Society of Interior Designers. The presentation will take an in-depth look at steps interior designers can take to vet the ingredients of building materials and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) for their impact on human health and the environment.
