The First Day: Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School

From our Ideas + Buildings Blog

As the new school year kicks into gear, millions of students are heading back into the classroom. In Atlanta, a re-imagined Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School opened its doors with an assist from our K-12 and Branded Environments experts. The existing structure, built in 1973, turned its back on the Grant Park community in which is was placed. When students returned to class this month, the new athletic fields and redefined entryway were on proud display, but some of the most profound changes happened inside the facility, emphasizing day-lighting and the creation of a commons area in which students can hang out and trade study tips. Bold graphic elements created by our Branded Environments team emphasize the teachings of Dr. King, with energizing splashes of color that help orient students and motivate them to succeed. We can tell it’s going to be a great year!
