In the heart of Boston’s Financial District, within what’s perhaps one of the ugliest buildings towering over downtown, is an office whose aesthetics lie on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. The architecture firm Perkins+Will, known best, at least recently, for building Charlestown’s Spaulding Rehab Center, created a workplace atmosphere that’s not just collaborative but inventive.
Before I met with Perkins+Will Principal Jeannine Campbell, Morel Orta and Jenny Davis, I made my way up to the lobby where I was instantly entranced by a miniature model of UMass Amherst’s football field, Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Having spent a few years studying on campus, it was a bit of a sentimental draw for me. And that was amplified when Campbell mentioned she, too, is a product of UMass.
