Born into a family of architects and doctors, it is only natural that Lara would become a specialist in healthcare architecture. Growing up with an architect mother, she started developing her own projects as a kid. “I had my own clipboard where I’d sketch my designs as my mom worked.”

Lara’s commitment to creating efficient, people-focused healthcare environments also started at a young age. For her graduating project, she proposed to design a hospital for children with HIV. As the theme was still a taboo at the time, she was advised not to do so, but carried on anyway, knowing it was a reality that deserved attention and care. The project received an A+.

Today, Lara’s young daughter is following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, she is already asking for clipboards and mechanic pencils of her own.

As the Healthcare and Educational Planner for one of Latin America’s most advanced institutions for medical study, Lara worked closely with designer Safdie Architects to ensure the project design supports the integration of teaching, research, and innovation.

Childhood experience

Lara’s aunt was a landscaping architect, which provided her the opportunity to meet, in person, Roberto Burle Marx—one of the most renowned Brazilian landscaping architects. He was her family’s friend and would often send flower arrangements designed by him as gifts.

New general hospital

Lara’s relationship with healthcare architecture led her to an 8-year experience in the UK. In 2006, she moved to London to conquer one of her first big achievements: getting her master’s degree. The move brought other significant milestones into her life. She received several opportunities to work in local architecture firms, and it was in the UK that she gave birth to her daughter, right before her graduation. “Writing my final essay while working and taking care of a newborn baby were one of the biggest challenges in my life.”

Family

Lara’s family is from Hungary, which makes her fully connected to the country’s culture. Since her childhood she participates in annual meetings with the Hungarian community in Brazil. As a passionate cook, she also prepares typical recipes for her family and friends.
