Phil began honing the skill of working with his hands at an early age—building tree houses, erecting forts, and drawing sketches. As an Eagle Scout, Phil learned how to think through and develop solutions to any issue that presented itself. As a young child, his favorite Christmas present was his red Etch A Sketch that he would draw on for hours each day. Through these childhood hobbies, his passion for architecture emerged.
Today, Phil’s design focus centers on the users’ experience while creating “aha” moments and logical solutions—a philosophy that results in surprising yet intuitive designs. When he teaches and mentors young architects, he encourages them to visualize how various users will experience each space, from the time they arrive on the site to their interactions with the building and the people within it.
