Atlassian, an Australian based software company, develops collaboration tools to facilitate file sharing and video conferencing for large companies, individuals, and project teams. As part of their rapid international growth, Atlassian set their sights on a Class A building in the heart of Austin’s downtown business district as their second U.S. office.

The design team was challenged to create a raw and loft-like feel in a first-generation building. The project designer and client worked closely to create a flexible plan with a monumental stair at its heart, serving as the hub of energy for the space. In addition, ancillary spaces are scattered throughout the plan including 2 large breakrooms overlooking Lady Bird Lake, a hospitality bar that serves as Atlassian’s “upscale coffee house” serving beer and coffee, a game room, numerous open lounge areas, bicycle storage, showers, quiet zones, and two outdoor terraces. The floor plan was developed with flexibility in mind, all desks are mobile sit-to-stand and power/data is distributed throughout the workspace every 7 feet from ceiling mounted power sources.
