Modesto Junior College, Student Services Building
Square Footage: 19,650
LEED Silver Certified
SCUP/AIA-CAE Excellence in Architecture-New Building 2014 Merit Award Recipient
Strategic planning and sustainable design made highest and best use of the College’s limited budget for this new building. Nestled tightly within a grove of old-growth trees at the campus entry, the two-story, U-shaped building frames a sheltered entry courtyard with perforated aluminum panels creating the effect of dappled light filtering through trees. The courtyard entry serves a dual function, capturing an additional 6,500 square feet of useable space for learning and collaboration.
Consolidated programs include: admissions, records, evaluations, counseling, veterans and disabled student assistance, testing labs, and a multi-purpose classroom. With support of the client, sustainability became a priority during design; the building has become the first on campus to receive LEED Silver Certification.
