Following an acquisition and several years of headcount growth in its existing space in downtown San Francisco, Software AG relocated to 140 New Montgomery, a 1925 high-rise for which Perkins+Will recently completed a full core and shell renovation. The refreshed building and area are ideally suited for tech recruiting and retention, with easy access to transportation and amenities, bike parking and repair within the building. Software AG retained Perkins+Will to conduct a workplace strategy assessment, develop new workplace standards, and build out two floors for their new SF headquarters space. By embracing the beautiful yet raw materials of the building, we created a space that embraces the legacy of Software AG and imbues it with the fresh edge of its local acquisition.
An open floor plan with communal areas clustered along New Montgomery Street allows the teams to work in a variety of daylit settings and stay connected to the city right outside their door. The open plan also reduces a previously hierarchical environment by limiting the number of private offices, and complements the base building’s LEED Gold certification with interior components of reclaimed wood products, LED lighting, and natural ventilation via operable windows. Software AG’s new workplace contributes to the company’s ability to recruit and retain top quality staff amid fierce competition for talent in the Bay Area.
