University of Washington, South Campus Study Phase II
Square Footage: 7,000,000
This plan provides the University of Washington with a phased and strategic vision for the South Campus, its most challenged campus precinct, for growth over the next 30+ years. The vision is evidence-based, incorporating the dynamic planning and programming needs of all occupants including the Health Science Schools of Dentistry, Nursing, Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, the Health Sciences Administration, and the Colleges of Engineering, the Environment, and Arts and Sciences. At the same time, the plan fully leverages the South Campus’s unique setting on the shores of Lake Washington and strengthens links to the Central Campus across a major arterial.
This plan transforms the South Campus into a research, teaching, and healthcare hub for collaborative, world-class, inter-professional activities supporting growth of all programs, a unique identity, a sense of place internal to the buildings and in the surrounding landscape, and strong connections within, to other campus areas, and to the waterfront. The plan provides Seattle citizens new views and access to open space and the shoreline, while offering flexible yet realistic phasing that allows for varying scales and timing depending on funding and needs. Together this vision and roadmap make for a truly sustainable and resilient long term plan.
