Vedanta University Teaching Hospital
Vedanta University is a new university in India. It is located near Puri, in the state of Orissa on the Bay of Bengal. We have reviewed the space program and provided master planning for 62 acres of the medical precinct, schematic design of the hospital and outpatient clinic and will provide support to local consultants during subsequent design and construction phases.
One of the first buildings for the campus is a 700,000 square foot, multi-specialty teaching hospital of approximately 500 beds with expansion capabilities up to 1,500 beds in three phases. The first phase hospital includes the specialties of cardiology, endocrinology, trauma/acute care, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology. Vedanta University’s vision includes both the education of its students and the development of research opportunities.
The teaching hospital is staffed by the faculty of the proposed medical school. It provides patient services and is a center for technical innovation. The advances begun in the research laboratories of Vedanta University’s medical and science schools are incorporated into patient care through clinical research programs at the hospital. Additionally, the hospital and clinic provide comprehensive and specialized services for the underserved population of the region.
