Phil Freelon, Design Director of the North Carolina practice of Perkins and Will, is one of the world’s 100 most creative people, according to Fast Company. The global business news and media brand recognizes Freelon for his work in “bridging architecture’s diversity gap” – leading projects that explore and embrace the black experience while also engaging in community outreach activities to attract more African Americans to the architecture profession.
Some of Phil’s recent and current projects include the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., Historic Emancipation Park in Houston, Texas; the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi; and the Motown Museum in Detroit, Michigan.
This is the second time a Perkins and Will architect has been named to Fast Company’s Most Creative People list. In 2012, Robin Guenther earned the recognition for her thought leadership and advocacy in sustainable healthcare design.
