Allan Horton

Associate Principal, Corporate and Commercial, New York

Allan is our New York studio’s Corporate and Commercial practice leader. He works across multiple disciplines to support human-centered design opportunities firmwide. With over 20 years of experience, Allan’s diverse skill set fuses full-spectrum real estate entrepreneurship with design and construction leadership to inform his unique role as an architect engaged in building and supporting world-class teams on mission-driven projects.

Allan’s career is comprised of many “first-of-a-kind” projects, including his research in AI and Business Strategy as well as Mass Timber. His experience working on both the development and design side drives Allan’s holistic perspective to delivering large-scale commercial projects around the world. Allan’s previous work for leading architecture firms based in New York City spans a variety of project types including embassies, supertall mixed-use development, student housing, business hotels, adaptive reuse, and arts-related institutions. He is a contributor to The Architect’s Newspaper and writes on a range of subjects including technology, contemporary art, architecture, and planning.

“I take pride in providing service that supports our clients' ambitions. My parallel purpose is to cultivate the next generation of leaders within our global practice. We are constantly evolving our business for maximum impact.”
Allan left his job making large-scale, glass installation sculptures for Henry Hillman Jr., artist, philanthropist and venture capitalist, to study architecture at the Pratt Institute. He moved to New York from Portland, OR right after the events of 9/11 in the hopes that he could contribute to and participate in New York City's socio-cultural reconstruction and support the next generation in a meaningful way through design.
Allan's practice leadership expresses a regional commitment to the firm's internal and external relationships, from Boston and New York to Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
In his spare time, Allan is a Coach and “Sifu” at City Wing Tsun, one of the most prominent martial arts associations in North America, founded by Sifu Alex Richter. He applies his passion for the martial arts in his work as a champion, supporting staff with strategies for wellness and personal growth.
