Towson University, Health Professions Building

Towson, Maryland
Training the Next Generation of Healthcare Workers

The Health Professions building provides high-fidelity nursing simulation labs as well as other specialized health profession instructional environments for Towson University. Through more than 20 collaborative learning classrooms, simulation labs, and interprofessional spaces, students gain valuable training in high-demand fields such as nursing, physician’s assistant studies, occupational therapy, and public health. The new facility brings nearly all of the University’s health professions programs together under one roof, including the state’s first accredited occupational therapy program and Maryland’s second-largest baccalaureate nursing program.

Tiered platforms provide seating and collaboration space for students between classes. The large expanses of glass provide a visual connection to the outdoors.
Modern lecture hall with tiered seating and sleek wooden ceiling design.
The plan is organized around a 350-seat auditorium, serving as a shared resource for the broader campus community.
Advanced technology and immersive learning spaces ensure students can meet the evolving demands of Maryland’s healthcare workforce.
Large atriums allow light to infiltrate inboard offices, and buffer the quiet administrative areas from the bustling classroom and lab spaces.

Reflecting the University’s mission to cultivate and educate the finest talent in the healthcare professions, the design considers the new building as an expression of health and well-being by promoting healthy living patterns. The design emphasizes sustainable principles that also have well-being aspects, including generous daylight penetration, connection to natural elements, inviting stairways that encourage exercise, and an abundance of natural materials as finishes.

Our new building is a catalyst for students to begin their careers. I believe this is the best facility of its kind in the country. It will be transformative for our programs, and transformative for our students.

Mark Ginsberg, Towson University President
