Spectrum Center Renovations

Charlotte, North Carolina
The Heartbeat of Charlotte

Spectrum Center sits at the crossroads of Charlotte’s past, present, and future. Home to the Charlotte Hornets and one of the city’s most important gathering places, the arena connects Uptown’s cultural legacy, growing business district, and the broader identity of the Carolinas.

As Charlotte evolved into a major destination for sports, entertainment, and cultural events, Spectrum Center evolved alongside it. The City of Charlotte and the Charlotte Hornets envisioned a venue that could welcome more fans, support new experiences, and strengthen its connection to the community. The goal was not simply to modernize the building, but to create a more dynamic, inclusive, and memorable experience for every guest.

Today, Spectrum Center serves as the heartbeat of Charlotte. Expanded seating, new hospitality destinations, enhanced food and beverage offerings, improved circulation, and modernized operations create a seamless experience from arrival to departure. Rooted in the spirit of the region and designed around human connection, the transformed venue brings people together through shared experiences that extend far beyond the game itself.

Premium Without Boundaries

For decades, premium hospitality in sports venues was defined by separation. The best experiences were often reserved for a select few behind exclusive doors.

Spectrum Center challenges that model. Rather than creating a divide between premium and general admission guests, the design embraces a spectrum of experiences that extends throughout the building. New clubs, social destinations, suites, and courtside environments offer a variety of ways to engage with the venue, each tailored to different preferences, energy levels, and occasions.

This approach allows guests to personalize their experience while remaining connected to the same shared atmosphere. Whether gathering before an event, enjoying a premium hospitality experience, or exploring the concourse, every space is designed to feel welcoming, engaging, and connected. The result is a more inclusive vision of hospitality that elevates the experience for every fan.

A Venue Rooted in Place

Spectrum Center reflects the character, culture, and spirit of Charlotte.

Positioned at a historic crossroads in Uptown, the arena acknowledges the city’s rich cultural heritage while embracing its future growth. The design draws inspiration from the Carolinas, balancing regional authenticity with the energy and sophistication of a world-class destination.

In focus are the North and South districts. These are distinct hospitality environments that pay homage to the regions surrounding Charlotte and the diverse communities that shape them. Each offers its own taste and identity while remaining connected to the larger energy of the arena.

This sense of place is woven throughout the guest experience, creating environments that feel distinctly Charlotte while welcoming visitors from around the globe. By celebrating both heritage and progress, Spectrum Center strengthens its role as a civic gathering place where community, culture, and entertainment come together.

Connected to the Energy

A single idea guided the transformation of Spectrum Center: keep every guest connected to the energy of the event.

Throughout the arena, sightlines remain open and intentional. Views extend from concourses, clubs, and social spaces directly into the bowl, allowing the excitement of a game, concert, or performance to remain ever-present. Guests can move through the venue, meet friends, enjoy a meal, or explore new destinations without losing their connection to the action.

This continuous visual connection transforms the arena into a unified experience rather than a collection of separate spaces. Every design decision contributes to a sense of shared excitement, ensuring the energy of the event can be felt throughout the building.
