Wes Bowen

RA, LEED AP BD+C
Associate Principal, Health, Dallas

In a middle school class, Wes was asked to draw a house. He got home and immediately began taking measurements, sketching every detail. He liked it so much he started sketching freehand on weekends, and a hobby became a career.

Meticulous by nature, Wes loves the technical complexity of healthcare projects. If you can design a hospital, he says, you can design anything. After more than two decades designing and managing these projects from the first conversation to the final walkthrough, he’s still excited by a technical challenge, but the work’s positive impact on its community is what he finds most rewarding. That and the people. As senior project manager, he’s found a deep appreciation for working directly with clients, and he’s known for building enduring collaborative relationships.

Outside of work, Wes and his wife, who’s also an architect, have two sons, a cat, and a running list of home renovation projects. And he still sketches on the weekends.

Our healthcare clients are trusting us with high-stakes environments. They hire us for our expertise, and they rightly expect a high level of competence in our work. I take that personally and make sure my team does too.

The Only Hospital in Town

In the small town of Pecos in far west Texas, Wes recently managed our team replacing a critical access hospital. This is an area that’s reaped the rewards of the oil boom but also struggled with the accompanying volatility, and the new 25-bed hospital dramatically improves access to quality healthcare. Wes grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico, not far from Pecos, and knowing he was able to operate at his highest licensure level and shape an environment enabling the best care in the area has been incredibly rewarding. Even more special to Wes is the lifelong relationship he’s formed with the local team of healthcare providers.

fun fact

Wes likes to brew beer. It started on his birthday years ago when his wife gave him a home brew kit. He promises he’s only caused a 5-gallon beer explosion once.
