Many students at York University’s School of Continuing Studies commute to classes on evenings and weekends. Adults seeking to further their education, they typically have jobs and children—including some who are recent immigrants speaking English as a second language. The school is one of the largest of its kind in Canada, and it was previously scattered throughout several buildings. To give its student body a place to call home, York sought to bring the program together in a dedicated structure that reflects the university’s identity and culture, meets ambitious sustainability targets, and acts as a gateway to campus.
