Our Atlanta Studio Celebrates the Start of the School Year with a Backpack Bash

Over 500 students attended the Backpack Bash event and received all of their necessary supplies to begin the school year off right.

The start of August marked the beginning of the K-12 school year in Georgia! To celebrate the return of the school year, and alleviate the stress of purchasing school supplies, the Atlanta studio and its partners teamed together to host the studio’s first Backpack Bash for the students of Bryant Elementary School in Cobb County, Georgia.

Principal of Bryant Elementary School, Dr. Timeka L. Cline, shared her enthusiasm for the event, “Bryant Elementary is a school with a Title I program, so receiving these supplies is a big win for our families and one less thing to worry about financially during this pandemic. We are sincerely grateful!”

By partnering with our regional consultants, the Atlanta studio was able to fundraise over $16,500 in donations. These generous contributions allowed the team to donate 1000 backpacks filled with schools supplies that catered to each individual grade level. More than 500 students selected a backpack of their color choice and filled each bag with their needed school supplies. The additional 500 backpacks were donated to the teachers of Bryant Elementary School and presented to the students who did not attend the event.

As the first Backpack Bash for the studio, event organizers Joshua Robinson and Maria Montgomery led the effort for the Atlanta studio. “The idea started last year when many families were experiencing the hardships brought on by Covid,” said Robinson, Designer II. “We wanted to do something to help the families in our local community and thought it would be wonderful to be able to provide school supplies.”

Associate and Project Architect, Maria Montgomery, acknowledges the contributions made in large part by our industry partners. “With Perkins&Will donating the backpacks, many of our partners were eager to contribute school supplies and even joined us on the day of the event. We work with these companies on many projects, and it was wonderful to come together and do something great for our community.”
