A transformative rapid transit project is set to move forward in Toronto and Mississauga with the announcement of our involvement in the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE). As part of the Trillium Rail Partners consortium, we are—in collaboration with Hawkins\Brown and Architecture49—providing architectural expertise for the ECWE Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) contract.
The project will deliver the design and construction of seven stations between Mount Dennis and Renforth Drive, with additional facilities under consideration for the airport link. The extension will connect five major transit services, including UP Express, Kitchener GO Train, TTC, MiWay, and GO Transit buses, which will enhance regional mobility.
Upon completion, the ECWE is expected to accommodate up to 69,700 daily rides, improve transit access for 37,500 more residents—including 4,800 low-income individuals—and bring 23,600 more jobs within walking distance of transit, rising to 56,000 jobs when factoring in airport bus connections. ECWE is projected to help reduce traffic congestion by up to 6.5 million car trips annually, cutting 5,800 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to bring our Canadian transit team together to launch another transformational project,” says Jeff Doble, our director of transportation design. “Collaborating with partners, connecting with communities, and delivering extraordinary transit experiences is what drives our team.”
This latest win builds on our firm’s legacy of excellence in transit design across Canada.
