Perkins&Will’s Debbie Beck Contributes to Neuroarchitecture Report

In this state-of-the-field review, the Building Brains Coalition explores the intersection of neuroscience and the built environment.

As members of the Building Brains Coalition, we’re working to advance the built environment’s positive impact on brain health. Dr. Debbie Beck, the principal on our Advisory Services team acting as the bridge between health practitioners and our designers, recently contributed to the Coalition’s latest report.

This state-of-the-field review synthesizes research shaping neuroarchitecture, an emerging field of study drawing from neuroscience, environmental psychology, public health, economics, and architectural research. From an analysis of evidence-based design strategies to a research roadmap for future study, the Building Brains report offers broad insight into the potential and impact of neuro-informed environments.

The Built Environment as a Strategy for Brain Health

The Building Brains Coalition recommends the report for architects, interior designers, planners, engineers, researchers in fields relevant to neuroarchitecture, policymakers and foundations working on brain health, leaders evaluating their buildings’ environmental performance, and organizations exploring workforce resilience and long-term productivity.

Brain-Friendly Design Strategies in Action

After exploring the report, learn more about our projects using evidence-based design to build “brain capital” in Debbie’s latest article. “By placing brain health at the center of how we plan, build, and invest,” she says, “we have an opportunity to shape a future in which individuals and communities are not only healthier, but more capable, equitable, and prepared to thrive in an increasingly complex world.”
