University of Chicago Medicine River East Clinic Celebrates Ribbon Cutting, Opens Outpatient Center

Members of Perkins&Will’s design team attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on February 12.

The University of Chicago Medicine opened its new outpatient care center in Chicago’s River East neighborhood on February 24. This clinic hopes to expand as well as capture a new demographic of healthcare consumers, using strong brand, wayfinding, and interior design to attract and retain patients.

The reception area uses a natural palette and plentiful daylighting to welcome visitors.

Thoughtful design aims to streamline the check-in and appointment process, positioning UCM as a key contender in the race to become a clinic of choice for healthcare consumers.

Some major goals of the new facility: fast appointment times, easy scheduling, a collaborative multi-disciplinary clinical environment, and streamlined check-ins for patients.

Spacious patient areas provide views to the surrounding city, while interior windows let light in.
