Justin Starck

Associate Principal, Retail, London

Justin launches and reinvigorates brands as Director of Branding at Portland Design, which joined Perkins&Will in 2015 and operates out of our London studio. He specializes in imagining and creating inspiring customer experiences across multiple touchpoints, from online platforms to in-person visits and post-visit interactions, and his clients include major airports, corporations, universities, and shopping centers.

He views design as a problem-solving tool, informed by storytelling and grounded in strategy, visioning, and data, that bridges present reality and desired outcomes. His approach, which he calls “designing backwards,” involves helping clients and project teams imagine a space at its very best, across all times of day and night, and shapes the design interventions that most effectively support that optimal experience.

Justin was initially tempted to pursue a career in education due to his interest in mentoring emerging talent and guiding groups toward clarity and alignment, but he discovered that consulting offered a path that could also incorporate his love of design and creative problem-solving.
