Katy Daugharty

AIA, LEED AP
Associate Principal, K-12 Education, Atlanta

Katy has over 20 years designing and renovating K–12 school buildings. She began her architectural career improving K-12 schools for the School Construction Authority in New York City, where she gained experience on numerous education projects with widely varied needs. Her first job also taught her to love existing buildings and to be a preservationist.  “These are buildings that deserve love,” she says. “And they should stay loved. They should age well and not be a burden.” Katy’s ambition to mix architectural solutions with public service contributes to our firm’s legacy of innovative K-12 school design.

Although Atlanta is home now, Katy grew up in rural Georgia near the Okefenokee Swamp. She comes from a family of educators, which translates into a deep respect for everyone who has a role in the magic of school buildings. It was her 10th-grade geometry teacher who suggested she pursue architecture. She followed Dr. Martin’s advice and never looked back.

For Katy, construction administration is the most exciting part of every project. It’s when she gets to see all of the team’s hard work come to fruition. Her pragmatic, to-the-point style serves her budget-minded clients well as their projects evolve—but never at the expense of creativity. Her K-12 focus allows her to be playful and elevate the public realm.

“School buildings have great potential to make children feel important and valued. They should be inspirational and provide a safe space during the student’s most vulnerable years.”
