Marco Marraccini

AIA
Principal, Design Director, Los Angeles

Marco is inspired by the collaborative nature of architectural practice. By guiding conversations with honesty and curiosity, he helps clients and colleagues discover grounded, responsive, and imaginative design solutions.

He prioritizes establishing clarity of intent at the start of every project. “Before we begin designing, we work with the client to arrive at a clear expression of their values,” he says. “We discuss what’s important to them, their constraints, and the experience they hope the architecture will create. This becomes the framework for decision-making and helps everyone stay focused on the ‘why’ behind the design.” He views competing priorities, like budget versus vision or form versus function, as creative opportunities rather than roadblocks.

By integrating research, material science, and environmental strategies into his practice, he helps clients achieve ambitious performance and design goals. Projects like the Aaron Milken Center for Early Childhood Education at Stephen Wise Temple and The Brick + The Machine feature passive ventilation, textural contrast, and indoor-outdoor connectivity.

Marco is the design director of our SoCal practice, which includes studios in Los Angeles and San Diego, and he has previously practiced in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. He has led project teams on ecclesiastical commissions, art studios, multifamily residences, schools, movie theaters, urban retail centers, and creative workplaces.

In addition to leading mentors and mentees in the studio, Marco actively develops talent in the broader community through school visits, student exhibitions, design reviews, and scholarship programs. He sees this work as essential to the profession’s future, creating space for dialogue, experimentation, and more thoughtful and inclusive design.

Grand opening of the Aaron Milken Center for Early Childhood Education
One of Marco’s proudest accomplishments is leading the design for the Aaron Milken Center at Stephen Wise Temple. This “village” for early learning features green roofs, drought-tolerant landscaping, and a system that captures and reuses stormwater in play features and irrigation.
