Neil Isles

Associate Principal, Retail, London

Neil guides major retail, transportation, and urban development projects for Portland Design, which joined Perkins&Will in 2015 and operates out of our London studio. As traditional typologies continue to converge, he encourages clients and project teams to imagine new possibilities and discover design solutions that accommodate changing needs over time.

He constructively challenges clients’ assumptions to help them define, refine, and sometimes rethink their goals. He and his teams draw from data, foresight, and decades of expertise to design spaces that serve a variety of needs while also adapting to align with ever-evolving social and environmental realities.

Neil’s global practice includes airports in London, Munich, New York, Dubai, and Singapore; U.S. and European rail agencies; and large, mixed-use urban regeneration commissions across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Communal spaces, like shopping centers or transportation hubs, cannot simply be places of singular transaction. They must provide for personal connection and community interaction as well as commercial conversion. Their value transcends space, catalyzing societal change.

Neil enjoys slowing down and immersing himself in nature for hours on end. One of his favorite meditative pursuits is carving spoons, which he perseveres despite the lack of practical uses for the fruits of his labor.
