Tim Murphy

AIA
Design Principal, San Francisco

Tim is constantly looking for ways to express culture through physical space. After starting his career as an art director, Tim went back to grad school to become an architect but never forgot his roots in advertising. Though he did not originally plan on specializing in interiors, he found success in layering each client’s brand into the design.

In 2000, Tim founded Tim Murphy Design Associates (TMDA) to take a more hands on approach to his work. Since then, TMDA has focused on upscale offices, hospitality spaces, and private residences both nationally and in the local Bay Area. TMDA recently merged with Perkins&Will, expanding both firms’ design service capabilities.

In addition to his industry experience, Tim has held teaching positions at colleges across the U.S., including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and his alma mater, the University of Illinois at Chicago.
