AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Associate Principal, Health, Minneapolis

“Healthcare design is where I find the most complex challenges,” Tom says. “The requirements are rigorous. There are multiple stakeholders and lots of variables. It’s like putting together an 8,000-piece jigsaw puzzle.”

Tom thrives on complexity, leading large and diverse teams, aligning costs with budgets, researching innovative technologies, and learning from clients in a quickly changing environment. He’s quick to note that one of the things he appreciates about Perkins&Will is the design-forward approach that drives healthcare work within the firm.

Tom has broad experience with surgical, inpatient, and imaging platforms and is well-versed in incorporating cutting-edge medical technologies such as interoperative MR imaging into healthcare environments. With degrees in both architecture and business, he knows how to lead conversations with contractors, owners, and other stakeholders in ways that produce results. His clients appreciate his inquisitiveness, reliability, and capacity to pivot.

Healthcare is changing so rapidly—constantly integrating new technologies and methodologies. The pace can be head-spinning, but for me right now, it’s an exciting place to work.
