Platform
Once a neglected industrial site, Platform now stands as a vibrant destination for retail, dining, and creative work that celebrates Culver City’s layered history. The six-building development preserves and repurposes three original structures, creating a cohesive environment that bridges past and present. Each building maintains its industrial character while supporting new uses, from restaurants to creative offices, resulting in a multifunctional urban hub.
Pedestrian pathways weave between buildings and landscaped gardens, inviting visitors to explore at their own pace. Materials such as charred wood, Corten steel, corrugated metal, and poured concrete reference the site’s industrial roots, while generous courtyards and outdoor workspaces embrace Los Angeles’ indoor/outdoor culture.
Platform emerges from a site shaped by decades of movement—from rail lines and industry to the steady pulse of mass transit. Its facade carries that legacy: an overgrown industrial greenhouse, and a boxcar’s rhythm of stacked freight translated into architecture.
Charred wood, pebbled siding, and weathered steel create a material palette that reflects both restraint and authenticity. Durable materials were selected for longevity, cost efficiency, and tactile beauty, allowing the buildings to age gracefully with the city.

Art adds another layer to this architectural language. A large-scale mural by Jen Stark transforms a blank façade into a landmark, breaking up massing and bringing color and creativity into the heart of the site. Smaller artistic gestures and color cues throughout function as intuitive wayfinding, guiding visitors through courtyards and passages without the need for signage.
