UCR Plant Research shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2023

The Plant Research building opened to the University of Riverside’s College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences earlier this year. The two-story, 30,000-square-foot greenhouse facility enables researchers to conduct state-of-the-art research with the most up-to-date research technology. Experiments that have already been facilitated in the new structure include investigating how well bees can pollinate in different climates, testing how to grow rice to withstand drought and flooding conditions in countries like India, and examining how different kinds of plants can act as a decontaminant for soil.

In an announcement for the opening, Yan Krymsky, design director of our Los Angeles studio, said, “It’s really a machine, a tool for research. But beyond that, we wanted to create a structure that spoke to the legacy of the university.”

Winners of the 2023 Dezeen Awards will be announced at a party in London on Tuesday, November 28.
