Antony Yen Named Interior Design Director of Perkins&Will’s Washington, D.C. Studio

Yen’s promotion ushers in a new chapter of design leadership, following the firm’s merger with HYL Architecture one year ago.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Washington D.C. studio of global architecture and design firm Perkins&Will is excited to announce the promotion of Antony Yen to Interior Design Director. Yen joined Perkins&Will following the integration of HYL Architecture, a women-owned interior architecture firm recognized for its inventive approach to workplace design. With his integrated design approach and a craft-focused ethos, Yen brings a refined design sensibility and a fresh perspective. His work is known for its thoughtful execution and continues to enhance Perkins&Will’s interior architecture practice, and his forward-thinking leadership contributes to the D.C. studio’s evolving design culture and shared vision.

“Antony’s promotion reflects our integrated approach to growth, one that embraces the addition of HYL to our leadership team and reinforces our commitment to a unified Perkins&Will culture,” said Damon Sheppard, managing director of the firm’s D.C. studio. “His leadership reflects the collaborative spirit we strive for across studios, and his transition into this role highlights how we support and elevate talent within our global network.”

New Design Leadership

In his new role, Yen will lead the studio’s interior design practice, guiding project teams, mentoring emerging designers, and driving cohesive design strategy across a diverse range of projects. His appointment signals a continued investment in design leadership and a bold vision for the future of interiors at Perkins&Will. His promotion underscores the firm’s deep, strategic investment in elevating interior design as a focus within its integrated practice.

“What drives my creative process is a belief that interior design should be integral and intentional with the architecture that surrounds it,” says Yen. “The blending of adjacent design disciplines into a seamless environment drives our vision and creates spaces that honor the smallest details. This role is more than a title; it’s a meaningful opportunity for me to collaborate with people and organizations across different fields, all with the purpose of delivering impactful environments to the people who inhabit them.”

Yen’s approach always considers how spaces feel for the people who use them. His work on notable projects such as Arnold & Porter’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and offices for Carlyle across the region reflect this philosophy, resulting in long-standing client relationships and a portfolio that spans workplaces around the world. His ability to translate user experience into spatial strategy continues to elevate the work of the D.C. studio. “Yen brings a unique perspective to interior design—his thoughtful use of materials and attention to detail contribute to a clear and cohesive conceptual approach,” says Carl Knutson, design director of Perkins&Will’s D.C. studio. “His ability to bridge the technical and experiential components of a project allows him to approach interiors with both creativity and precision.”

While projects can take years to come to life, Yen is quick to remind collaborators that the process doesn’t have to be rigid. His design process is known for being friendly, collaborative and approachable—qualities that help clients navigate tough decisions and align design outcomes with their business goals.
