Our Austin and North Carolina studios partnered with Smith & Company Architects to create the long awaited expansion plan for the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural, and Genealogy Center. On June 10th, 2021, the Austin City Council unanimously approved the plan days before Juneteenth celebrations were held.
The planning process started in April 2020 just after Austin shut down for the pandemic, making this our first plan completed 100% virtually. Despite having yet met the Parks and Recreation Department leadership in person, the planning committee was able to connect with civic leaders, visual and performing artists, and community residents to capture feedback that shaped the plan’s guiding principles.
