Canada’s Earth Tower, the world’s tallest hybrid wood tower, will dramatically reduce its greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestration.

The Sustainability category acknowledges how projects use inventive design to reduce harm to the environment in a meaningful way. Canada’s Earth Tower, the world’s tallest hybrid wood tower, was recognized for dramatically reducing the project’s greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestration. It will also be a zero-emissions building in operation.

The project also uses innovative design to solve problems in the built environment, garnering it recognition in the competition’s Spaces and Places category. The 40-story timber tower creates meaningful connections to our natural environment, restoring local biodiversity and providing public areas that are vibrant and accessible. Equally important, the project will support community and dramatically improve livability in tall, urban residential buildings.

The Workplace category honors projects that strive to create happier and more productive environments for employees. Placed in honorable mention for this category, 311 West Monroe is an amenity-rich office building that offers opportunities for collaboration and wellness to all building tenants. Employees in this building can relax in the music room, bowling alley, or fitness center. Common areas such as a café and lounge area offer alternatives spaces to work while enjoying generous natural light and indoor foliage.
