National Aviation Leader Julie Wienberg Joins Perkins&Will as Firm Expands its Transportation Planning and Design Practice

Wienberg’s arrival coincides with the second installment of federal grant funding to U.S. airports under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides $5 billion over five years to improve the nation’s aging airport infrastructure

DENVER—Global architecture and design firm Perkins&Will welcomes Julie Wienberg, a national leader in aviation architecture. Wienberg will oversee Perkins&Will’s airport planning and design services, strengthening the firm’s leadership position in the market and ensuring continued excellence for airport clients and communities across the country. With domestic air traffic expected to swell this year beyond pre-pandemic levels—and the recent infusion of nearly $1 billion in federal funding to enhance the traveler experience at 99 U.S. airports this year alone—Perkins&Will’s aviation services are poised for rapid growth.

“Over the next several years, as airports large and small embark on major improvement projects with annual grants from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program, as well as significant private funding, airport leaders will need experienced, trustworthy partners to help them deliver these transformations,” says Wienberg. “I look forward to new and continued collaborations with these clients—and to bringing their visions to life with the incredible talent, research, and technologies that only Perkins&Will can offer.”

Wienberg, who is based in Perkins&Will’s Denver studio, brings 26 years of experience in the planning, design, and management of complex aviation and transportation projects across the country, including the development, integration, and delivery of new terminals, concourses, and expansions.  She has served as lead architect and technical advisor, with responsibilities ranging from project development and procurement to project management and stakeholder dialogue facilitation. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Airports Consultants Council (ACC) since December 2022.

Among Wienberg’s many past clients are the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Denver International Airport, Des Moines International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, San Diego International Airport, Tampa International Airport, Tucson International Airport, United Airlines, and Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.

“Julie’s client-centric focus and commitment to delivering the results our aviation clients expect make her a valuable and trusted advisor,” says James McGrath, chair of Perkins&Will’s global transportation practice. “We are thrilled to have her, grateful for her expertise, and confident in her ability to successfully lead us through this exciting period of growth and opportunity.”
