The Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture received an AIA Honor Award for Architecture.
“This award is significant for the firm and the design team that worked on the Museum for the last 8 years,” said Phil Freelon, lead architect for the project. “Our goal was to create an iconic and enduring statement worthy of its vital cultural content while respecting its important context in our nation’s capital. To receive this recognition from the AIA is truly humbling and greatly appreciated.”
The 2019 AIA Awards for Architecture celebrate the best of contemporary architecture and show the many ways buildings and spaces can improve our lives.
