Perkins&Will announced today that it has named Greg Johnson the new managing director of its San Francisco studio. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Johnson brings more than 25 years of experience directing the design and development for a wide variety of public, private, and nonprofit projects throughout the Bay Area.
Greg’s extensive background serving as both the project architect and the project director for a number of local projects provides him with the unique ability to blend design strategies directly with the needs of the project sponsor. Sharing this knowledge base with the design team will offer Perkins&Will the ability to approach each project with a truly holistic perspective, where the goals and mission of all team members are aligned from the outset. This distinctive perspective will enhance Perkins&Will’s commitment to design excellence across all projects in all sectors.

Johnson is a member of the AIA, the Urban Land Institute, and a Board Member at SPUR (San Francisco Planning and Urban Research). Johnson’s body of work includes a number of notable projects including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), 706 Mission Street/Mexican Museum, 1500 Mission Street/Goodwill development, the Bay Area Discovery Museum and 1700 Webster Street in Oakland. Johnson has been with Perkins&Will since February 2016 and is currently leading the Potrero Power Plant Master Plan, 30 Van Ness mixed-use development and the San Francisco International Airport Consolidated Administration Campus project.
Johnson succeeds Peter Busby, who served as managing director of the San Francisco office for the past six years. Busby was also the former managing director for Perkins&Will in Vancouver, where he led the firm’s Sustainable Design Initiative across all of its 24 offices.
