NEW ORLEANSContract magazine, in partnership with the Center for Health Design, today honored two of our recently completed projects with 2019 Healthcare Environment Awards.

Mayo Clinic’s Mangurian Building, a cancer and neurology care center in Jacksonville, Florida, and Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star, a sports performance and healthcare complex in Frisco, Texas, earned the accolades for “innovative and interior design solutions that enhance the quality of healthcare delivery.”

The Mangurian Building won the award in the Ambulatory/Outpatient Care Facilities category. The Sports, Therapy & Research complex won Honorable Mention in the Health and Fitness Wellness Facilities category.

“Our goal is to partner with our clients to propel healthcare forward—to create care environments that support an expanded vision of health delivery,” says Robin Guenther, principal at Perkins&Will and leader of the firm’s health practice. “These awards demonstrate both the breadth of our practice and our focus on creating new typologies to meet our clients’ expanded health mission. We are grateful to Contract magazine, the Center for Health Design, and the jurors for this recognition.”

Mayo Clinic Mangurian Building

An outpatient center that treats cancer and neurological patients in an environment that’s warm, humanizing, and ultra-high-tech, the Mangurian Building is part of Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus expansion. Blending hospitality and health, the center is designed to make patients feel welcome, comfortable, and well tended-to. In addition to convenient curbside digital check-in, patients can take advantage of an outdoor garden, meeting space for support groups, and a bistro that offers dietary options tailored to specific health concerns. Along with providing patient care, the building is home to Mayo Clinic research and clinical trials.

Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star

A first-of-its-kind collaboration between a major healthcare provider, an NFL team, and a local school district, this complex represents a creative convergence of design typologies—including healthcare, science and technology, sports and recreation, workplace, and branded environments—to create a seamless, “one-stop-shopping” experience for patients seeking care and recovery. Through its design, the building showcases the link between active lifestyles and well-being: at nearly every turn, the science of athleticism and sports medicine is on display, leaving visitors feeling inspired to get moving for their health.

Both awards were announced this morning at the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference in New Orleans. Congratulations to our clients and to our project teams!
