Antony Yen

AIA, LEED AP
Principal, Workplace, Washington, D.C.

An architect by training, Antony discovered interior design late in his college career. He enjoys projects that are most impactful at the human scale, and he likes to say that his architecture is intended to be perceived from five feet away, rather than 500 feet. He strives to create enduring interiors that are sustainable, flexible, and adaptable to new business processes and technologies.

He brings genuine joy and a sense of humor to serious work. Rigor and attention to detail are required to ensure clients’ goals are met, but that doesn’t mean the process itself must be tedious or stressful. One of his proudest professional accomplishments is collaborating with his colleagues to design a framework that helps clients feel comfortable exploring their ideas and expressing their needs.

For Antony, the most exciting moment in a project is the day the staff begins moving in. Although the client’s leadership is involved at every stage of the planning, design, and construction process, many of the staff are moving directly from their previous office to an improved, more engaging workplace, and Antony enjoys observing their reactions to the new space and their discoveries of thoughtful details.

Many of our clients have no design background, so guiding them through a project is like leading them up a mountain. We make it approachable. We make it engaging. We even make it fun for them to learn how to articulate their preferences.
fun fact

Antony’s grandfather, Yen Shui-long, was a well-known artist in Taiwan. Antony hopes that his own work is a worthy echo of his grandfather’s artistry, craftsmanship, and commitment to making beauty a part of everyday life.
