Brent Ross

AIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, Fitwel Ambassador
Sports, Recreation and Entertainment, Chicago

Challenged to design his ideal house in a third grade after-school program, Brent’s choice to create a high-rise home, complete with elevator cores and mechanical chases, sparked a lifelong passion for solving complex problems in the built environment.

His projects make innovative leaps by thinking holistically around sustainability and well-being, incorporating biophilic design, daylighting, material health and social cohesion. Brent believes all these elements can reinforce each other, achieve harmony and lead to surprising and remarkable outcomes.

Brent believes in a client-centric design process that focuses on assessment, technology, and vision to bring value to our clients and community. He strives to create meaningful architecture that has a lasting impact on the people, places, and organizations involved. This is what drew Brent to the Sports, Recreation, and Entertainment market years ago and why he is passionate about leading the practice within our Chicago Studio.

How do you define success?
“I measure a project’s success by looking at the journey. Are our clients and their constituents enjoying the process? As architects are we engaging and reimagining our craft? If we strike the right tone during our process, success will resonate throughout the life of the project for decades beyond opening day.”

Design Philosophy
“To me, design is not about creating or destroying, but rather rearranging, organizing, and aligning elements around us to stimulate new connections. I believe architecture should be in service to those connections, between people, art, and nature.”
